George Reginald Freeman is a dedicated sexual health educator, feminist, researcher, and human rights defender for people discriminated against because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. He is firm believer in the power of grassroots social movements to create a just, inclusive, and equitable society.
George provides training, as well as moral and technical support, to African asylum seekers in Spain, Germany, Belgium, and France. He works with undocumented immigrants, migrants, and refugees, including those who identify as LGBTQI, with their asylum process and court proceedings. In partnership with the UNHCR Catalan Committee, George has been a motivational speaker for the awareness-raising campaign “We Listen to Refugees'' since 2014.
With support from The Pollination Project (TPP) in 2017, George published “Unveil the Lens of Unspoken Reality,” a report that highlights the discrimination and inhumane treatment encountered by asylum seekers, immigrants, and refugees, and offers recommendations to resolve these issues. Currently, he is a Programs Associate for the Pollination Project Foundation.
George has extensively researched the sexual reproductive health and human rights of LGBTQI people, youth, and women within the Mano River Union, with a focus on Sierra Leone. George was the first person to speak out publicly and actively engage the Sierra Leone Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS. George has also successfully advocated for LGBTQI rights to the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, which protected them as minority rights in 2011.
George studied International Law with a focus on the Protection of Forced Migrants under the European Convention of Human Rights at the University of Barcelona. His experience in project management includes fundraising, managing contractual issues and administrative systems, implementing and monitoring LGBTI projects within Europe and the Mano River Union, and maintaining external grants databases.
